Our Mission

DonateFireGear Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that connects U.S. fire departments with under-resourced firefighters around the world. We collect retired but serviceable firefighting gear — turnout coats, pants, helmets, boots, and gloves — and redistribute it to communities where firefighters respond to emergencies without proper protection.

The Problem

Every year, American fire departments replace thousands of gear sets to comply with updated NFPA safety standards. Much of that retired gear still has useful life remaining, but it often ends up sitting in storage or getting discarded. Meanwhile, firefighters in developing regions across Africa, South America, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia are responding to structure fires, wildfires, and rescue operations with little to no protective equipment. The consequences are devastating — severe burns, respiratory injuries, and fatalities that proper gear could prevent.

Our Story

DonateFireGear was founded by Ivan Antonovski, whose Macedonian heritage gave him a firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by firefighters in under-resourced countries. Growing up connected to a community where emergency responders often lacked basic protective equipment, Ivan saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between American surplus and global need. What started as a personal mission to help firefighters in Macedonia has grown into a foundation serving communities across dozens of countries.

What We Do
